TEDMUS TIP:

How about that rain storm in the Bay Area this weekend? Lots of rain and wind.

Homeowners are calling in to determine if their home is covered by homeowners insurance. Typically, this coverage is excluded under a homeowners policy and covered seperately under a 'flood insurance' policy. If you can't afford a flood insurance policy, maintain your home with the below water protection tips to save time, energy, money and frustration - an alternative to flood insurance.

Damage to your home due to water intrusion, whether a small trickle from an undetected leak or a sudden gush of water from a broken hose or pipe, can wreak havoc on your home and belongings.

The first thing to do if you notice water in your home is to shut off the water. Everyone in your home should know where the water shutoff valve is and how to turn it off in an emergency. Then you can go about fixing the leak or call in a professional if the problem is more serious.

Does everyone in your household know where the water shutoff is, and are they able to turn it off by themselves? Show younger children who cannot perform this task alone where the water shut off is, so they are able to show a babysitter or houseguest in case of emergency.
